House panel OKs steps to further ease military transition to trucking

Both bills are expansions of measures included in FAST Act.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved two measures on May 24 to further ease the transition of military personnel seeking commercial driver’s licenses. 

Both are expansions of measures initially included in the 2015 FAST Act.

Introduced by Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA), HR 2547 will make more medical professionals at medical facilities operated by the Veteran Affairs (VA) eligible to conduct physicals for truck drivers.

FMCSA again pushes back driver training rule

Agency moves effective date of last year’s final rule to June.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said it is again delaying implementation of its final rule governing training standards for new truck drivers until June 5.
The notice will be published in the Federal Register on May 23. A preview of the document from John “Jack” Van Steenburg, FMCSA’s assistance administrator, was posted online late last week./>
